ABOUT SALLEE FARM

We are a family run farm located in Bourbon County, Ky.  We purchased the farm in 2003 without really any plans to raise animals.   In 2008 we were given a free mother goat that was refusing to feed her twins and from that beginning we slowly expanded to a herd of around 75-80 breeding does.  Our original herd consisted of  Boar goats, though fast growers they really struggled with the system we raised them in. Now our current herd is primarily Kiko and Kiko Boar cross. We have found them to be a much hardier animal that really does well with the way we manage them.  We raise our goats to  meet the bulk of their nutritional needs through a pasture based diet and to require  minimal reliance on wormers. We do this through a system of mixed species rotational grazing with our cattle and by simply selecting animals that thrive in our management system.  We expect them to be exceptional mothers and to kid out on pasture with as minimal input as possible.

In 2023 we had the opportunity to expand the farm with additional acres. This addition had the remains of an old hoop house and, much like the free goat, we once again started on another unplanned and unexpected venture.  The Hoop House at Sallee Farm grows a variety of plants, primarily for cut flower market bouquets and bulk flowers by the bucket.  We also grow a selection of container grown plants including native plants and trees.
